Cat Dental Care

Cat dental care is a major part of your cat’s annual physical exam. It’s important because cats are good at masking their pain, making it difficult to determine when they are uncomfortable.

What is involved in a dental cleaning procedure?

The dental cleaning procedure includes ultrasonic scaling, hand scaling and polishing. If there are any teeth to be removed, this is also included in the procedure.

What are the signs of dental problems in cats?

Signs of dental problems in cats are inappetence, pawing at their mouth and weight loss. If there are any teeth to be removed, this is also included in the procedure.

Are some feline breeds more susceptible than others?

Brachycephalic breeds, such as Persians, may be more susceptible to dental diseases due to the eroding of the teeth.

What is feline tooth resorption?

Feline tooth resorption is when the body breaks down and absorbs the enamel on the tooth, causing it to become weakened or even break off.
